This half day assisting at mealtimes course is aimed at staff members who assist residents at mealtimes to ensure safety.

Course Includes

  • Possible reasons why a person may require mealtime assistance
  • Dysphagia and swallowing issues
  • Importance of nutrition and hydration
  • Safer swallowing strategies, including positioning (resident and staff)
  • Reporting and recording potential swallowing difficulties
  • Conversation or no conversation during the meal?
  • Promoting dignity and respect at mealtimes
  • Role of the Speech and Language Therapist
