Crystals of Dementia

This one day course considers different potential stages of a person’s dementia journey, tailored to the individual’s needs.

This one day course considers different potential stages of a person’s dementia journey but, unlike previous models of training, looks at these in a more tailored, person-centred way.  The training uses the concept of “Crystals” to illustrate how the journey may differ from person to person, based on the type of dementia diagnosis and where in the brain the damage is occurring.

Abuka are members of “DEEP” and the Alzheimer’s Society, and this training has been built on lived experience of people living with dementia and their carers.  Reference is also made to “Good Work:  A Dementia Learning and Development Framework for Wales” and the Social Services and Well Being (Wales) Act 2014, which details best practice for understanding dementia and its effects.
